Federation of Mooters:- The law students require a good legal training which would give them the capacity to ascertain the law and objectively apply the same to the totality of the facts on hand and present the same in a manner acceptable to the court. It is in this context, that moot courts have been recognized as a part of clinical legal education at law colleges. The moot courts gives students the necessary training and insight into the requirements of court culture ands also help them in acquiring the skills of advocacy. With this objective in mind, our college established the Federation of Mooters, to assist the students in cultivating the skills of advocacy. The Principal declared the federation open on 29th August – 2006. b). Intra College Moot Court Competition:An Intra College Moot Court competition was conducted at the college on 29th July – 2006. This was conducted to select teams of students and also send them to participate in various moot court competitions Academic Programmes: In association with Asian School of Cyber Laws, the college introduced a Diploma programme in cyber law & also in intellectual property law to the students of the college. The course would provide to the students adequate number of lectures on the subjects and also comprehensive course materials. a). Personality Development Programme: A personality development programme was also conducted for the 1st Semester LL.B students from 24th July to 29th July - 2006. In this programme, classes were conducted on memory training, public speaking and presentation techniques. b). Guest Lectures: To enable students to meet persons of legal eminence and to share their thoughts and views on various legal issues, a series of Guest Lectures were organized at the college. ü on 8th July – 2006 a Lecture on Jurisprudence was delivered by Prof. Venkatakrishnappa, Former Principal, B.M.S. College of Law, and Former Dean, Faculty of Law, Bangalore University. Prof. Venkatakrishnappa gave a bird’s eye view of various legal theories to the V semester LL.B students. ü Prof. Martin delivered a Lecture on ‘Criminal Procedure Code’ on 22nd July – 2006 for the IX semester LL.B. class. ü Mr. Subramanya, Advocate delivered a Lecture on ‘Resjudicata’ under ‘Civil Procedure Code’ on 5th August – 2006 for the IX semester LL.B. ü Prof. A.C. Rajashekar, Advocate delivered a Lecture on ‘Hindu Succession Act’ on 19th August – 2006. The guest speaker spoke to the students about ‘Radical Changes in Hindu Succession Act’. ü on 2nd September – 2006, Mr. Satyanarayana Chalke, Advocate delivered a Lecture on ‘Criminal Procedure Code.’. He spoke to the students on trial of criminal cases. ü Mr. Kaushik, Advocate delivered a Lecture on Principles of Natural Justice’ on 9th September – 2006 Workshops / Seminar /orientation programmes. On 14th July – 2006 Mr. Veeresh, Advocate, conducted an Orientation Programme on Moot Court for the students at the college. Mr. Veeresh spoke to students about the drafting of pleadings, oral advocacy and other techniques required for participating in the Moot Court competitions. C.P.R Environmental Education Centre is a centre of Excellence of the Ministry of Environment & Forest, Government of India. It is established jointly by the Ministry and C.P.Ramaswamy Iyer Foundation. It has been set up to increase consciousness and knowledge among people about environment and environmental problems facing the country today. In this direction, it proposed to conduct a workshop at our college on ‘Environmental Protection, People and the Law’ and the same was held on 1st September – 2006. In this workshop case studies on water pollution control were taken up by the students. Moot courts on environment protection were also organized M.S.Ramaiah Medical College celebrated ‘World Breastfeeding Week – 2006’ from 1st to 7th August – 2006. As a part of the celebration Dr. Dayanand & Dr. Mallikarjun Associate Professors of M.S.Ramaiah Medical College conducted a sensitization programme on ‘Infant Milk Substitute Act – 2003’at our college. In this programme, they gave health education to the students on promotion of optimal infant and young child feeding practices in the community and to protect these practices from commercial food companies disseminating unscientific information to the public, especially mother, infant and adolescent strata. Our college has also been enlisted as a nodal co-ordinating centre for organizing similar programmes at other law colleges. The college is desirous of associating itself with non-governmental organization to facilitate students to take up research projects and also provide para-legal training to the volunteers of the NGOs. In connection with the same, on 6th September – 2006, Arvind Narayan, and Sowmya Advocates from Alternative Law Forum spoke to the students about how they can take up research projects on issues relating to women, child and other vulnerable section of society. Internal Workshop The following case studies were also taken up by the students in the month of July & August – 2006 in the class room. Keshavanand Bharati Vs State of Kerala, (1973) 4 SCC 225: AIR 1973 SC 1461 Faculty News: ü All the faculty members attended a orientation programme at the college on how to access Manupatra – an online legal database from 19th July to 24th July – 2006. The programme was conducted by the officers of Manupatra. ü Nataraj G.Y, Lecturer, left for Delhi on 1st September - 2006 to attend the UGC Refresher Course on International Law, conducted by the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi. ü Ashutosh Mishra and Nataraj G.Y, Lecturers, attended a lecture on ‘General Overview of Mediation’ held at Karnataka Judicial Academy in the month of August – 2006. The lecture was delivered by Geetha Ravindran, Director, Dispute Resolution Services, Supreme Court of Virginia. ü Mr. Ashutosh Mishra, Lecturer attended seminar on ‘Criminal Justice System – need for change’ conducted at the Karnataka High Court on 11th July – 2006 as a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the High Court. Sports: a). Inter Law Collegiate Cricket Tournament Sports play a very important role in student’s life for the development of a balanced and healthy personality. Organizing inter sports events helps in promoting a healthy spirit of competition, partnership and bondage among participants. Keeping this objective in mind the sports committee of our college conducted Inter Law Collegiate Cricket Tournament from 11th September – 2006 to 14th September – 2006. The tournament was inaugurated by the Principal. Eight law colleges in Bangalore participated in it. V.V. Puram college of law were declared winners and Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies, the Runners – up. The Valedictory ceremony of the cricket tournament was presided by Sri. E.A.S. Prasanna, Former Indian Test Cricketer. He also distributed the prizes and certificates to the participants and winners of the tournament. Sri. M.R. Anandaram Director M.S.Ramaiah college of Law was also present. Student achievements. v Miss. Vasundhara Shrivastava of III semester LL.B won a prize in the Essay writing competition on Child Labour conducted by International Labour Organization, Bangalore. v on 9th September – 2006, Mr. Amitesh Prasad Ray of III Semester LL.B won 2nd prize in the Inter Law College Debate competition conducted by B.E.S. Law college, Bangalore on ‘Removal of corruption is it a right or duty?’. v Miss. Vasundhara Shrivastava, Mr. Vikhar Ahmed, Miss. Pavanjit Kaur Devsi and Mr. Sahil Bhalaik of III semester LL.B took up a project on ‘Working of Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum’ in association with the Rotary Club, Bangalore. The students have submitted the report on the same on 28th September – 2006. v On 9th September – 2006, the Debate Club of the college conducted a Intra Mural Debate competition on ‘Should Capital Punishment be abolished?’. Sujatha Mukherjee, Krishna S Vyas and Aryaman Sing of I semester LL.B secured I, II and III prize respectively Cultural activities: v A party was organized on 11th August – 2006 to extend a hearty welcome to the students of I semester LL.B class. v The college celebrated ‘Onam’ on 5th September – 2006
